In-Depth Human Appearance: In her first entrance to the story as a young girl of age eight, the length of Rin's hair ended at her mid-back, tangled and dirty. Rin did not wear shoes. Her skin was covered in dirt, and bruises; and she was also missing a tooth at the time.
In Rin's second appearance, she is renewed. She is clean, free of bruises, has a full smile, and brushed hair - though she still does not wear shoes. Her hair is dark black, thick, and wavy, while her eyebrows are thin and arched. There is one section of her hair that is shorter than the rest, which is held up in a small pony-tail secured with a short, yellow band. Her brown eyes are large and curious, while her other facial features are smaller. Her facial expressions have a gentleness to them, and are very expressive of what she is feeling at the time. She has a slender body and walks with much grace and energy. This description remains constant throughout the main story-line.
As Rin grows older, she develops a more womanly figure, and her hair grows much longer. Her face grows to be more mature, but it still carries the same gentleness that she has always had. Rin wears various kimonos given to her as gifts from Sesshoumaru, as well as other clothing. She also always harbours a constant smell of flowers throughout her life; due to her fondness for and constant activity with them.

Second Kosode: Rin is first seen wearing this kosode in her second appearance with Sesshoumaru, and continues to wear it throughout the main story-line. This kosode reaches her knees, and is patterned with large, orange and white checkers. There is also an overlapping pattern of two green circles intertwining with each other; the kosode is secured with a green obi that ties in the back.

In-Depth Personality: Rin is very brave, it is one of her strongest traits. She is far braver than most regular girl-children, this is partly due to her harsh past experiences, and also to her everlasting trust in Sesshoumaru. She believes that as long as she is with him, she has no reason to be afraid, so this only enhances her bravery. Rin idealises Sesshoumaru, he swept her away from her lonely life as an unloved orphan in a village, and gave her a new one that she is very content with.
Rin tends to talk a lot - she had been mute before - but after being revived she has overcome enough of the traumatic events that had caused her to be mute, and regained her voice. As a result, she loves to talk. She is also a very open child, and is very curious, she wants to know as much as she can about her mysterious guardian, Sesshoumaru. When she cannot get any conversation out of him, she tries to talk to Jaken, as she is curious about him as well. When she is not making conversation, Rin enjoys picking flowers, and making crafts out of them. She enjoys giving her floral creations away to her companions.
Rin is so in love with her life, that she fears to lose it more than anything. She doesn't believe that Sesshoumaru would leave her, but she fears that he may. Sometimes she feels that she is more of a burden to their group than helpful, but Sesshoumaru has not abandoned her yet, so she believes she must serve some kind of purpose or comfort. When Rin is left alone during times when Sesshoumaru is doing dangerous business, she has a lot of time to herself to think - but what she fears the most is the future. She knows that Sesshoumaru, as a demon, is immortal and will live forever. Though she, as a human, is mortal and will grow old and die eventually. She hates to think about it, because she knows that it will happen someday. Rin desires more than anything to travel with Sesshoumaru forever.
Rin sees Sesshoumaru as her guardian, her hero, and she loves him dearly.
As Rin grows older she starts to fear old age and death more as it comes closer, these thoughts and fears haunt her the most while she is left in Kaede's village and only visited by Sesshoumaru every few weeks, instead of being a steady companion. She misses him dearly, and thinks about him constantly. Though Kohaku is there to comfort her, as her friend, she still feels lacking without Sesshoumaru; and she can't help but harbour a bitterness towards villages, due to her previous experiences with them. Despite her fears, Rin is a very kind, thoughtful, and gentle girl. Throughout her life, Rin lives by believing that there is good in everyone, and that people do cruel things as a result of being unloved - through this theory, Rin tries to love the good in everyone.

In-Depth History: Rin was your average girl-child until she lost her parents and her home. It was a traumatising experience, so much so that it resulted in her becoming mute. Even though she was allowed to live in another village, Rin felt lost, she had to learn to fend for herself, as an orphan. She was also very lonely and often dreamed of someone saving her from her sad life.
This is one of the reasons why Rin was so brave when she came across Sesshoumaru, weakened and resting in the nearby forest. She felt a connection with him, he was so obviously alone and stranded from anything or anyone familiar - like her. She felt a desire to help him, bandits were the ones who had ruined her life, not demons - even though she had heard various stories about the horrors of demons - she thought that Sesshoumaru was beautiful. Rin truly believed that he could be the one she had often dreamed of saving her.
Rin was not afraid of pain, the villagers threatened and hurt her often. The beating she received for attempting to retrieve fish from the stream for Sesshoumaru hurt, but did not dampen her spirit. Even though Sesshoumaru rejected the food she had brought him, when he asked who had given her the bruises on her face, it made her very happy. It had been a long time since someone had showed her any sort of concern. Because she could not speak, she became very good at expressing herself, and the smile she gave Sesshoumaru left an impact on the demon that ended up saving her life.
When Kouga's wolf pack attacked Rin's new village, it was like reliving a nightmare, watching people get slaughtered, and again, the fear for her life came over her again; though she had a small hope that Sesshoumaru could save her from the death she should have received in the attack on her first home. She tried to run to Sesshoumaru, but she could not outrun the wolves, which resulted in her death.
Sesshoumaru had mostly recovered by this point, but he picked up the scent of Rin's blood, he followed the scent and eventually discovered Rin's corpse. The demon remembered her smile, and he used Tenseiga for the first time to save a life, her life. Though he claimed to be testing the Tenseiga.
When Rin awoke she was in the arms of her hero, it was if she had never died. Rin watched him begin to walk away, and she knew that she couldn't go back to her village, since it was destroyed. But she felt a strong desire to follow him, stronger than anything she had ever felt before - it was almost as if she was being pulled in by some great force. Rin hardly even noticed Jaken, in her trance, as she took her first steps toward a new life.
Role-Play Sample: Rin knew she had to go, it was probably going to get dark in an hour or so. Time was never on her side. Rin let go of Sesshoumaru and held the kimono Jaken made for her tightly. She was almost stuck in a daydream, she used to be a lot louder when she was younger, but she grew more quiet as she started to think more. Most humans don't bother thinking about growing old and dying as a horrible concept, because all humans did the same.
Rin knew she wasn't, but she felt alone in the matter, because she knew that she would never see Sesshoumaru again. People who lose loved ones or lose themselves believe they will see each other again when they die, Rin's situation was different.
Rin brought herself back to reality when she heard Sesshoumaru speak again. 'Two monthes?' she thought to herself with a smile. "I look forward to it, I'll wait for you." This was the only reason Rin wanted time to keep moving, so she could see him again.
