In-Depth Personality:
Sesshoumaru is an adolescent demon puppy who thinks that he is more grown up than actuality. Like many teenagers and younger adults, he is a know-it-all brat who believes himself to be indestructible. This leads him to be overly arrogant and confident about his abilities, and thus leap into situations without first thinking about the long-term or immediate consequences. When faced with the repercussions of his ill-thought-out actions, his stubborn refusal to see his own faults makes it hard to learn from his own mistakes. He is also a vain, prissy boy who is always flicking and running his fingers through his hair. He keeps it real long and shiny, and probably uses a lot of conditioner to keep it all smooth and clean. He also wars a big furry boa thing that he probably took from his mother.
Sesshoumaru is an emotionally constipated youkai. He rarely displays emotions other than that of murderous intent when he doesn’t get his way. He has a hard time talking to other people. So, when faced with emotionally trying situations, he often clams up and does not say anything at all. His tendency toward silence when around other people is also a sign of his inability to communicate. When he does talk, his words are often rudely spoken and offensive.
Sesshoumaru is a racist, youkai supremacist. He dislikes half-breeds, especially his little brother, and sees them as impure things. Although they may sometimes be amusing, he despises humans be believes them to be weak. Yet, he is also a hypocrite because he has taken a small human girl under his protection—although she is more than likely just an amusing pet which he keeps around to distract Jaken from being underfoot.
Sesshoumaru has daddy issues. Since he was young, he had always aspired to surpass his father’s ability and to gain approval in his father’s eyes. However, his father died before any of this could be accomplished. His father’s last days were spent protecting his younger half-brother; for this, Sesshoumaru both hates Inuyasha and his jealous of the boy. He feels that his father loved the bastard hanyou child more his own full-youkai son, because his inheritance was passed down to the younger child. Sesshoumaru was left with nothing but a useless sword which couldn’t be used for killing. Because Sesshoumaru is essentially a spoiled only-child, he covets his baby half-brother’s things and does not want to share his father’s inheritance.
Sesshoumaru is also a Mama’s Boy and a spoilt brat. His mother neglected Sesshoumaru by giving him by giving him everything he ever wanted before leaving, while at the same time, chastising him for his sporadic bouts of compassion before leaving him to his own devices. Now, any signs of affection from his Mother are rejected, or ignored, as that Sesshoumaru has become a highly independent and rebellious teenager that ran away from his responsibilities as Lord of the West so that he may seek to become more powerful, and to torment Inuyasha. He only visits his mother when he needs something tangible from her, but would otherwise avoid her. Due to his absent father, and his distant yet overbearing mother, it is little wonder that Sesshoumaru is now a psychopathic killer.

In-Depth History:
Sesshoumaru is the son of the Great Dog Demon (deceased) and Inukimi. He is also the older half-brother of Inuyasha. In early encounters with Sesshoumaru, he seems ruthless, especially in his treatment towards Inuyasha.
He tried to steal the sword from Inuyasha, but ended up getting his arm severed in the battle. Although cruel and arrogant in the beginning, Sesshoumaru had been humbled by the loss of his arm and constant defeat by Inuyasha. However, as Naraku grows as the greater threat, Sesshoumaru starts to become less hostile toward his brother. Eventually, be comes to care for his sibling—although he will not admit it. Later, he starts to look out for his brother in battle, even going as far as to assist Inuyasha in perfecting his use of Tetsaiso. However, the method by which Sesshoumaru does is, more often than not, accompanied by violence and insult toward Inuyasha. Sesshoumaru seems to teach through tough love. The reason for his assistance usually comes in form of an excuse that he was around for a different reason; for example, he may say that he was only passing through. His pride will not allow him to admit to kind actions.
Sesshoumaru starts to have a growing sense of compassion which is brought about by the presence of a human girl named Rin, who he met while recovering from the loss of his arm. After she was killed by wolves, Sesshoumaru revived her to test Tenseiga’s healing powers. He then allowed her to follow him. Her smiles and kindness initially took him off guard, and soon started to warm his cold heart. He developed a protectiveness and compassion toward her that grew into something akin to fatherly love, such to the point that the second death of Rin was too great a price to pay for expanding Tenseiga’s power. He was visibly distraught and became depressed when he learned that she could not be revived. When his mother brought Rin back, his relief is obvious through his affectionate attention toward Rin. Later, he agrees with Keade to allow Rin to live in the village, so that she may get used to living among humans. He probably allowed this for her own protection because further travel alongside him could get her killed. However, he frequently visits her and brings gifts.
He also seemed to have developed a soft spot for Kagura during their interactions over time, even though he was initially annoyed by her attempts at manipulating him into fighting Naraku. He probably doesn’t know, himself, what he felt for Kagura, and it is uncertain if her love was unrequited. However, he did become angered when Moryomaru joked about how Kagura died in vain. It was anger for Kagura’s sake that allowed Tenseiga to be reformed as a weapon.
Sesshoumaru eventually lets go of his jealousy toward Inuyasha, and his desire to take Tetsusaiga from his brother, and passes on Tenseiga’s fighting techinique, Meidou Zangetshuha on to Inuyasha. Subsequently, this allows him to regain both his left arm and his own sword, Bakusaiga. As a ‘rite of passage,’ the attaining of this sword signified Sesshoumaru coming into his own as an inu daiyoukai, and thus surpassing his father.
He later uses this sword to help Inuyasha defeat Naraku.
Role-Play Sample:
Sesshoumaru was at a loss.
It was a realization that churned his gut—thus unknowing toward what to do about the situation in which he now found himself. He did not like, nor did he want to succumb to, this helpless feeling. Still, he could not deny the fact that this whole thing was entirely his fault.
He had been overly confident—it made him careless.
Thus, in his own hubris, he was proven the fool.
Now, she is paying the price for his mistake.
He had left her unaccompanied while he went to dispatch the horde of lesser youkai that had encroached upon their camp. One had managed to get past him. He had let it to, intending to take care of the main horde first, and then come back for one that remained.
It took him longer than he had expected to defeat them.
He was too late.
Too slow.
Sesshoumaru had returned to camp to find Rin crying and holding her foot. He smelled blood and toxins. She’d been bitten by a venomous youkai—a snake to precise. Jaken was fussing over her, while the snake in question laid five paces away, charred. Jaken had slain it with the Nintoujo.
Jaken had done what he could to remove the venom, but it was already running its course through her body.
Now, Rin was tucked into the crook of his right arm as he walked. He held her close stave back the chills that wracked her small body. He could hear her heart’s tremulous beat as she struggled through each pained breath. His nose twitched as the scent bile still clung to Rin; despite having stopped at the spring to clean her wound not thirty paces ago. Her leg was bruised and swollen, and he took care not to jostle her. Yet, he could see that it still pained her greatly.
Now, Sesshoumaru was faced with the dilemma: either finding a way to cure Rin, swiftly, or watch her die a slow and painful death.
He could not lose her. Not again, and not over something so completely, utterly stupid.
Unfortunately, he knew little in the ways of curing poisons—less so when the victim was human. This left him with only one viable option:
To ask for help.
He only hoped that person would be willing.
