In-Depth Human Appearance:
Gavron is, by european standards, a rather ideal frontline officer. He is a fair-skinned, is of medium height and has good bone- and muscle structure, though nothing extraordinary. His bushy coal black hair reaches down to his shoulders, his darkly brown eyes glitter with confidence as he smothers his gotae (round-.shaped beard around the mouth) and walks with his head held high. His face may be considered handsome to a degree.
The tone of his voice is deep and sounds unaffectionate at first, but Gavron is actually good at playing around with intonation like a musician would with his instrument: it can range from charming and tender to downright raging and resentful.
But his kind of job is not the type that values aesthetics too highly. Gavron rarely finds the time and means to wash himself, henche he often reeks from a variety of smells and his skin and hair are usually not pleasant to touch - nor to see for that matter, as his body bears battle scars aplenty.
Speaking of scars, there is a particularly characteristic one among them: a cross-shaped wound, just above Gavron's heart, the sole remain of a seemingly fatal injury from which Gavron miraculously recovered.
Equipment
A point I must emphasise is the fact that much of Gavron's equipment is expendable - henche his items and weaponry can vary to some degree from RP to RP as he uses up his items or refills his supplies (in between adventures).
To maintain order for myself and fellow roleplayers alike, I usually submit the content of Gavron's inventory for the given adventure in the very first post I make in that particular topic so everyone can keep track of what he used up and how much he has left of his items.
Mount: usually none; if mounted, he favors knightly european steeds.
Inventory:
In accordance to the note at the beginning of the equipment section, bear in mind the the below list contains items what he may or probably carries with himself. The numbers I put there represent the minimum/maximum Gavron likely carries.
- Foodstuff for 2-4 days
- Rope (8 meters long, can support the weight of 1 person)
- Compass
- Maps
- First aid package (medieval, of course, with herbs, needles, etc)
- Iron cup, pot, fork, knife and spoon
- Cartridges for pistols; 20-30 pieces
- Wheellock pistols; 2-3 pieces
- Glass bottles (empty); 2-3 bottles
- Glass bottled holy water; 2-5 bottles
- Holy wards; 7-12 pieces
- Grenades; 0-4 (yes, sometimes he doesn't take any)
Armour/Garments/Jewellery:
Gavron's clothing (especially in the armor department) can vary from mission to mission, but he generally garbs himself in either wool or flax clothing, usually picking darker colors such as brown, black, or shadings of red or gray. Shirts and trousers are must-have pieces, of course. Gavron also loves to wear fine quality leather gloves and boots, but actually rarely wears hats (helmets are more convenient for combat).
His armor includes the following:
- Vigilant Helmet -
Gavron, if possible, always wears this helmet in combat. It is notably more durable and resistant to attacks of any type than commonplace helmets due to its unique alloy and protective magic inscriptions. The helmet can also bestow a special blessing on the wearer, which is activated by uttering a certain phrase:
"Angels of dawn, let my vision pierce the clouds of deceit !"
Once activated, Gavron's eyes and the inscriptions on the Vigilant Helmet start glowing with a faint white light for the next 10-15 minutes. During the effect, Gavron can see decently even in nocturnal darkness (but his vision range in such a state will be rendered only to several meters) and illusionary images will seem transparent to him (this doesn't make an illusion image go away though, he'll just know it is not real, but he may still mistakenly react to it if he doesn't concentrate). The glowing eyes and helmet may give his position away to opponents if he's not careful though. Illusions which affect a sense other than vision (ie. voices or touching) are not effected by this spell.

- Stormeater Gauntlet -
Gavron, always brings this particular unique right-hand gauntlet with him to missions. ALWAYS. Because it is apparently cursed and stuck on his hand. Not that he minds it much though, since it provides nice advantages...
The alloy it is crafted from is unknown, as well as the source of its magic properties as it doesn't seem to bear any magic inscriptions, runes, glyphs or anything of the sort. What is known, however, are the facts that it is rather flexible yet enduring, and what's more interesting: it draws and absorbs lightning-based attacks. It also doesn't seem to melt from excessive heat like traditional armor pieces would.
However, there is a limit to what the gauntlet can absorb. Once consuming lightning energy, it buzzes with elecric lights and shocks anyone it touches, or fills items held by it with elecric properties for either better or worst as a mean to give off the energy. However, if the energy is too much for the gauntlet to contain, it produces a discharge of uncontrollable lightning bolts which pose a danger to everyone and everything in their vicinity (including the wearer).
When used in combination with Gavron's rapier, Gabriel's Feather, the gauntlet can charge up the rapier with electric power which can be unleashed in the form of lightning bolts at a short distance, causing shock and/or burn wounds or setting things aflame.

- Breastplate, Gauntlet, Shoulder plates, Legguard plates, Bracers (all steel) -
Now that's where it can get somewhat random. Gavron may or may not wear some or all of the above mentioned armor pieces, depending on what his mission will likely require of him. For example, it's unlikely he'll wear much armor for an investigation or a simple hunt, but if he goes to an area infested by several demon clans it is only fitting to go "fullmetal".
They don't have anything out of the ordinary; they are metallic clothing items which provide extra defense at the cost of slightly limiting mobility. However, some of Gavron's abilities can be used to enchant the armor pieces with magic properties.
Weapons/Charms:
- Gabriel's Feather -
A rapier of mystical powers, rumored to have been forged using a quill from the wings of Archangel Gabriel. Gavron received this weapon from the Catholic Church upon attaining the rank of Inquisitor. While its origin may be debatable, its quality is not: virtually nigh indestructible, this lightweight two-edged sword can be used to cut and thrust through all but the most durable materials and can be wielded with fearsome accuracy and speed.
When fighting demons, the rapier shines with a faint light. Demonkin wounded by this weapon will feel the wound scorching with pain. In addition, injuries caused to demonkin by this rapier take notably longer to heal than ordinary wounds. Humans are not effected by this ability of the sword.
Good-aligned demons and/or halfbreeds feel significantly less pain upon being wounded by Gabriel's Feather, but still more than a human would feel upon being stabbed in the same manner.
Gabriel's Feather CANNOT be wielded by those of demonic blood; upon gripping it, the sword will start searing their body part off, literally, with an otherworldly fire so even fire-aligned demons cannot escape from this effect. If it's thrown away at once, it will merely cause a tiny burn wound, but if someone insist on wielding it, that demon/half-demon risks losing a hand or a whole arm. It is unknown if other human wielders would experience a similar effect, because Gavron doesn't let go of Gabriel's Feather easily.
When used in combination with Gavron's Stormeater Gauntlet, Gabriel's Feather can be charged up by electricity which can be unleashed in the form of lightning bolts at a short distance, causing shock and/or burn injuries or setting things aflame.
- Wheellock Pistols + cartridges -
Wheellock-type one-shot firearms, firing metallic cartridges. From a close distance these pistols are accurate and pack quite a punch, capable of penetrating even full plate armors or thick demonskin. On longer range however their accuracy and firepower drastically decreases. Relatively long reload time.
Gavron always takes at least 2, or sometimes 3 pistols with him. Since they are one-shot weapons and reloading can take a while, it's simpler just to bring along some extra pieces for combat a worry about reloading later.
At times Gavron dual-wields pistols, but that's quite rare. He prefers to go pistol-and-sword style.
Gavron's average spare ammunition amount is between 20-30.
- Holy Wards -
Just as Japanese monks utilize magically inscribed papers to combat demonkind, so does Gavron and other agents of the church utilize small crosses, medals and similar items against non-human adversaries. A ward can be used by holding it in the hand and reciting short prayers or phrases. Depending on the spoken phrase, they can have various effects to benefit Gavron's cause. Once a spell is cast with the help of a ward, the ward is consumed by the essence of the spell and can't be used anymore.
Gavron's usual spare Holy Ward amount is around 7-12.
- Holy Water -
Holy Water has more uses than average people realize. Beside a ritual use in monasteries, it is a potent weapon against demonkind and the living dead: any such creatures touched by Holy Water will suffer from it as if they came into contact with a powerful acid, as it tears off their skin and flesh. Wounds caused by Holy Water take longer to heal than ordinary wounds.
In addition, creatures animated by magic (ie. zombies, golems, bewildered vines, etc) are greatly weakened or downright destroyed and dissolved by Holy Water.
Alternatively, it can also be drank by humans or good-aligned demons to restore health and stamina to some degree. It won't produce miracles, but speeds up recovery from injuries and considerably reduces the effects from poison attacks.. If drunk by good-aligned demons, it causes a feeling of sickness afterwards. If drunk by evil demons, it can literally melt their insides.
Good-aligned demonkin are not scorched by Holy Water, but their skin is nevertheless highly irritated by its touch.
Gavron's usual spare bottled Holy Water amount is 2-5.
- Grenade -
Through Arabic and Chinese contacts, Gavron sometimes acquires primitive hand-grenades: small, ball-shaped metallic containers with a fuse. Once the fuse is lighted with fire, it has to be thrown; once the fuse burns down, the grenade explodes. There are 4 types of grenades:
Explosive - filled with gunpowder; causes a moderate explosion in an area, damaging everything and everyone caught in the area of effect. Gavron marks this type of grenade with orange paint.
...
Incinerating - filled with greek fire; upon impact, the liquid spills and covers everything it touches in flames. Good to set stuff aflame. Can be extinguished with proper effort though. Gavron marks this type of grenade with red paint.
...
Splinter - filled with little gunpowder but many tiny metallic and wooden shrapnels, it causes only little explosion but casts burning shrapnels in all directions. Doesn't cause much actual damage, but can set the environment aflame and provides distraction. Gavron marks this type of grenade with yellow paint.
...
Distraction - this type of grenade doesn't produce much of a bang, but is filled with a chemical that produces a lot of stinking smoke afterwards. It is very unpleasant for either human or demon nose, and irritates the eye as well, but does not cause any injury or lasting disability. Gavron marks this type of grenade with white paint.
Note that Gavron does NOT always carry these things around, as they are very hard to acquire.
If (IF !) he does bring some along, he takes no more than 1-4.
Attributes
Mortal/Immortal: No-one lives forever. He is no exception.
Blessings/Curses: (none)
Resurrection/Reincarnation: (neither)
Resistances: fire, lightning, fear, cuteness
Weaknesses: poisons, illusions, innocence
Abilities/Powers:
Mark of God
The cross-shaped wound on Gavron's chest is not merely an old scar: it is a reminder of his sacred duties, and more importantly, his last refuge in hand-to-hand combat against demonkin. When those of demonic heritage touch Gavron's body in any way, the Mark will attempt to "protect" its bearer. The more tainted and evil the fiend is, the more he/she will find touching the chosen champion of the Heavens painful and repulsive, as the Mark will severely irritate him/her. This feeling can be shrugged off with enough concentration (half-demons have an easier time attempting that), but it is likely that the "first contact" will be a nasty suprise.
Demons of truly good heart are not irritated by touching Gavron, however. Instead, if they try to hurt Gavron the Mark sends a subconscious message, a faint feeling that "killing this man would be wrong", but nothing else.
Note that this is NOT a real attack as it is passive and deals no damage. It is merely a last-second distraction, in a truly colossal battle it won't save Gavron's hide.
Funnily enough, Gavron himself is NOT aware of this ability ! If he would be, he wouldn't be wearing gloves all the time.
...
Cleansing Fire
Ever since he entered the service of the Inquisition and learned the arcane secrets of the Warrior-Saints of old, Gavron displayed a noteworthy affinity with the element of fire. Throughout his training he learned to control it and bend it to cast absolution upon the enemies of God.
Gavron can put this ability to use by binding the essence of fire to the weaponry he carries. The effects can vary depending on the equipment he uses. Some examples below:
Bladed weapons - engulf the blade in magic flames which cannot be extinguished by water and cause most materials to burn or melt.
...
Firearms - enhance the bullet fired to violently explode upon impact (like a tiny fireball), produce a blinding flash, or ultimately, an unloaded gun can be used as a flamethrower, spitting flames at a few meters distance.
...
Holy Water - boil up the liquid; Gavron won't feel the heat, but once spilled the water will be scorching hot.
...
Holy Wards - enchant a ward to keep a person warm and/or provide minor resistance to fire and heat for 4-5 hours. Enchanting a ward takes some time as Gavron has to concentrate his magic; the process is difficult to carry out in actual battle. The Holy Ward is still usable even after the effect expires.
...
Armor - enchant a piece of armor to become fire resistant and/or heat up until it sears with heat; if that armor is worn by Gavron, he doesn't suffer from the heat (or more precisely he heats up only the outside layer of the armor). Enchanting a piece of armor takes a short time however as Gavron has to concentrate his magic, but the process can be carried out with little effort even during a battle.
As a bonus, Gavron can produce sparks of fire without using any tools, merely by snapping his fingers. BUT if there's nothing to sustain the fire (ie. a dry branch), it will be just a harmless spark, nothing else.
...
Armor of the Guardian Angel
By chanting a few minute long prayer to certain Guardian Angels, Gavron can bestow a blessing of sacred protection upon an item or person for a limited duration of time. This protection is invisible to the human eye and lesser demons as well, but its effects speak well for themselves: a layer of unseen force, the protection spell covers the target like a force field and deflects or absorbs attacks of demonic energy. Not only that, but devilbreeds in the direct vicinity of the spell subject will feel themselves weakened and drained by this enchantment.
The stronger Gavron makes the spell, the shorter it lasts, and vice versa. In the most extreme cases:
- can last for several days, but only 1-2 minor spells can bring it down at once, OR
- withstands even a couple or so very destructive magics (ie. Wind Scar) but lasts only for half an hour.
Regardless of its actual strength, the spell still requires the same amount of preparation time.
Gavron cannot cast and maintain this spell on more than 2 people at a time, and the more power he invests in the casting the more straining it will be on his body.
Note that this spell does NOT mean invulnerability, "just" greatly increased resistance to demonic energies (mostly spells) and causes demons and half-demons to feel duller and weaker in its direct vicinity. Physical attacks bypass the protection spell without any difficulty. Also keep in mind it requires some time to be prepared, so unless it's cast before battle it won't be too efficient.
...
Phrases of Saints
Gavron knows several spells which can be invoked by using a Holy Ward and a specific phrase or prayer once uttered by the Warrior Saints of older times. The invocations have to be clearly spoken, but they don't have to be uttered. They can be whispered, but again, the whole phrase has to be spoken lest it won't function. Once a spell is cast, the Holy Ward used to channel it disappears and can't be used again. The invoked spells are generally short-lasting and are effective vs both demons and humans.
The Phrases of Saints (at least the ones used by Gavron) are:
"Archangel who struck down the Devil, grant me the strength to face this evil !"
Multiplies Gavron's physical strength; in this state he is a capable match for most lesser demons and half-demons in hand-to-hand combat but it lasts only for 8-10 minutes. There's also a chance he will damage his own equipment if he's careless (ie. accidently crushes his pistol with his grip). In addition, regardless of the vast increase in strength, his endurance and vulnerability are not changed by this spell so for example a sword can cut through his flesh with the same effect as if he didn't have this spell active. Still, in a wrestling match against muscle-bound demons this can be a livesaver.
"Divine thunder, I command thee: lash out upon all sinners !"
Enchant a ward with lighting; can be 'attached' to weapons or armors to add a bonus lightning-based effect, or thrown to lash out upon a foe with electric shock. If it is used as an 'attachment', the effect lasts for 3-6 minutes. If the ward is thrown at an enemy and hits, the electric shock lasts for roughly 5-9 seconds by standard, but that can be longer or shorter depending on the situation.
"I shall cast you back to the hell from whence you came !"
Provides a single-use powerful attack: Gavron's next attack, either with a weapon or bare hand/leg, will produce a mighty shockwave in its path. Opponents facing this force will feel as if they got assaulted by the might of a battering ram. This attack can literally blow away and hurl aside foes, but more often than not it is the impact of the landing that causes the most damage rather than the actual attack itself.
"May this weapon purge the world of evil entirely in His holy name !"
Using a Holy Ward, Gavron can enchant a weapon (or a weapon's ammunition in the case of ranged weapons) to strike with greater efficiency against demons. This spell grants similar properties to a weapon like those possessed by Gavron's sacred rapier. If used on an already sacred weapon (ie. Gabriel's Feather - see the weapons section), its demon-slaying powers are only even further increased. This boost lasts for 3-6 hours.
Note that once a weapon is sanctified with this spell, it becomes very difficult to be wielded by pure-blooded demons as it scorches their skin. Half-demons and humans don't experience any side effect.
Like Gabriel's Feather, weapons enchanted by this spell cause significantly less pain to good-aligned demonkin, though still more than a human would feel upon being wounded by that weapon.
"Great Lord of Heaven, let me become a pillar of light within this ocean of darkness !"
For the next 5-15 seconds, Gavron dons the visage of an angelic creature: he gains a halo, great white wings, and radiates an aura of righteousness; around him, all darkness is illuminated and clouds in the sky dissolve. For those of good heart, this look is inspiring and encouraging, as if Gavron was indeed a beacon of hope, while creatures of evil will look upon this visage with terror and dread, feeling their inevitable defeat is drawing near.
Note that Gavron does not actually become an angel: this spell is an ILLUSION. A very powerful illusion, but still just an illusion, which restores the courage of allies and frightens enemies. Beside the cool look, the temporary weather effects and the psychological impressions it invokes, it does nothing.
On a sidenote, Gavron dislikes resorting to this spell, especially in non-christian cultures because it generates (often) unwanted attention, and it makes him appear more than what he truly is.
Personality
Traits: fearless, stubborn, somewhat impatient and mistrustful, ever loyal to companions and friends, honest, strict, intelligent, orderly, perceptive, devoted
Habits: talking in a hammy/cheesy manner, over-analyzing events, preaching to others, constantly checking his items, acting grumpy over trivial matters, whistling annoying tunes
Likes: household animals, idillyc scenes, seeing his work yielding good results, fighting honorably with equally skilled opponents
Dislikes: insects, annoying brats, bueraucrats, getting ridiculed, when things don't go as planned (which happens all the time)
Hobbies: cooking, educating, reading, singing (rarely)
Fears: failure, very big heights
Sexuality: heterosexual
In-Depth Personality:
Gavron Alexander is considered by many a somewhat controversial man - and with a good reason. In service of the Inquisition, this grim-visaged warrior strives to rid the world of evil. But the way he performs his tasks could be considered unorthodox; probably the opposition between his personal beliefs and those of the organisation he serves originate from his past as a freelancer mercenary.
Gavron is, at first impression, a heartless bastard who can be hasty to judge others, is impatient, acts arrogant and disrespectful, spitting upon everything and everyone who delays his work. Worse yet, given the nature of his job, he finds it difficult to trust others, and he does not hide his opinion on things; if he resents or despises someone, he says so frankly, and if he offends someone wrongly, he has a hard time apologising. And so, given his personality flaws, he walks and fights alone in his struggles most of the time.
In battle, he does not display remorse or fear, regardless of his opponent. He uses his weapons and tools with remarkable precision and cunning, flexibly adapting his style to the situation; his battle cries range from sarcastic to devoted, but one thing is sure: woe betides any who crosses his path.
But when he makes a mistake, it can ache badly, and not necessarily physically. When innocents suffer because of him, - now that's very sad, especially if there was actually a different road to take... but he was trained not to display weakness, so he suffers in silent solitude, haunted by dark thoughts until he dismisses them, reminding himself of his duties.
Due to his mistrusting and criticising nature, it is hard for others to get close to him. But if someone actually manages to earn his trust, Gavron will slowly, steadily drop the tough guy act and reveal traits previously unseen: he can be very loyal, protective, caring, fatherly, sacrificing. Gavron has few close friends - but he would gladly face hell itself for any of them.
Despite his career as a demon hunter, Gavron isn't afraid of killing humans either if it's a necessity for some reason. And more oddly yet, his personal moral code sometimes leads him to defy or twist his assignments around in some manner. Long story short: he thinks his objective is to fight evil. And not all demons are evil.
Sometimes Gavron has a tendency to become sentimental, especially if he encounters a situation he once experienced before (usually in his youth); in such case, he may seem confused, or act "out of character" to strangers, displaying sympathy and understanding.
While he doesn't emphatise it, Gavron in fact does respect other cultures and religions due to his multicultural background; hencheforth he doesn't care about converting others unless it clearly relates his duties. Ie, he is unlikely to bother a peaceful buddhist temple, but a satanistic sect will be less fortunate.
Because of his strange work ethics, Gavron is not very popular among other Inquisitors, but can adapt quickly to new cultural environments, which is probably the reason behind his role as an expeditionary officer.
History
Relatives:
Figures:
Companions: Tila (pet/adopted daughter)
Friends: Vasvary Janos, Hong Wong
Enemies: Darkov, Maradonia
Mates: Huan Jing (complicated... very complicated...)
- Avram Alexander (father; deceased) -
Mercenary soldier, Gavron's biological father; perished in a battle several months after his son's birth. Gavron's stepfather and childhood mentors remember him as an excellent marksman and loyal, if carefree companion.
- Irena Markovich (mother; deceased) -
Mercenary soldier, Gavron's mother; became infected by disease and perished several weeks after giving birth to her son. Gavron's stepfather and childhood mentors remember her as a remarkable fencer and strong-willed woman.
- Marshal (stepfather/father figure; deceased) -
Gavron's stepfather. Marshal was the leader of the company of mercenaries which brought up Gavron. It is unknown whether "Marshal" is actually his real name or just a title. In any case, Marshal subjugated Gavron to harsh training since his youth, which yielded good results on the battlefield as the boy matured, but this also makes him responsible for much of Gavron's current personality flaws. As he slowly realised his mistakes, Marshal tried to make amends and show a better side of life to Gavron, to no avail until higher powers interfered, setting Gavron on the right path.
Gavron remembers Marshal fondly, despite the cruel treatment he received from him as a child. Marshal's current status is unknown - Gavron hasn't heard of him ever since he left the mercenaries behind to join the Inquisition, but given the fact he was rather aged for someone of his profession, it is probably safe to assume he is deceased since then.
- Daniel Weiss (rival/brother figure) -
Both a brotherly figure and rival, Daniel Weiss is a fellow demon-hunter of Jewish origin who works in connection with the Roman Inquisition. He went through demon-hunter training together with Gavron and they became both rivals and close friends. However, in the long run Daniel didn't take the severe training as well as Gavron did, ending up with a twisted mentality. He loathes demonkind and most non-European cultures with passion and has no qualms about hurting innocents if he must. He claims to despise Gavron as well, constantly questioning his sentimentality and beliefs, but he hardly ever actually challenges him to combat. Gavron feels sorry for Daniel, and can't bring himself to hate him.
In combat, Daniel Weiss resorts to a similar fighting style as Gavron, but uses more traditional weaponry (longsword and hand-crossbow) and his "Phrases of Saints" are more focused on crippling and tormenting his opponents. He also has the knowledge to summon mockeries of mythological beasts from the earth in the form of mighty golems.
As they are both part of expeditionary forces, it is possible that Gavron and Daniel occasionally end up working together. While they find it difficult to get along, their teamwork is unmatched.
- Tila (companion) -
A little monkey demon from North-Africa, Tila is either Gavron's pet or adopted daughter - he himself can't decide which term fits their relation better, and Tila herself doesn't care.
Gavron encountered Tila on an expedition to North-Africa, where he and a group of monks helped the local tribes recover from diseases indirectly brought in by merchants. Gavron treated Tila's father, one of the chieftains, with exceptional personal care (because he mistook the monkey demon chief for an average human); in return, the chief wished to gift his greatest treasure to the stranger. That treasure was his daughter, Tila. Gavron and Tila both opposed the decision, but Fate thought otherwise. Through a series of adventures, the two ended up traveling together ever since.
Tila's people are shapeshifters: they have a monkey and a human form, and their transformation is nigh flawless - it is next to impossible to tell Tila from an ordinary human in her human form (save for the fact that she'll have a funny smell). In her monkey form, she's smaller than a grown-up man's head, but pretty agile. In human form, she appears as a 15-year old girl with dark brown skin and curly black hair. She also seems able to manipulate water - but only a bucketful amount at a time.
Innocent, carefree, kind and helpful, she often compensates for Gavron's grumpy attitude. She is not much of a help in combat of course - the battlefield is clearly not meant for her.
- Vasvary Janos (friend) -
(Note: in Hungarian language, the family name preceeds the given name, henche this character's name in English name order would be Janos Vasvary.)
A Hungarian knight from the chivalrious Order of Saint George, an inter-European community of demon hunting paladins and cavaliers, Vasvary Janos is a descendant of an long bloodline of sacred warriors. He strives to uphold the values of chivalry and protect the innocent from harm, and does so by taking any pounding on the battlefield upon himself and returning it threefold. He owns a magical set of armor and several enchanted weapons, making him a formidable opponent to any demonspawn, but is by no means a pushover unarmed either - it is rumored he can beat ogres and smaller giants in wrestling.
Janos encountered Gavron shortly after Gavron left behind his mercenary comrades, in a tavern brawl to be exact. which the knight initiated himself (defending a barmaid from molesting guests). The guests outnumbered the knight 23 to 1, so Gavron thought the match unfair and joined Janos' side. This soon lead to swift friendship, and the two men travelled together afterwards for a good while. Even after their ways parted, they continued to maintain their relationship, and it was this friendship which inspired Janos to take part in expeditionary missions himself.
Janos is brave, honorable and good-hearted, often sparing the lives of his opponents (if he believes he can persuade them to make amends), and has a soft spot for ladies of all races and cultures. He also possesses the unique and unexplained ability to speak any language in world flawlessly - if he's drunk enough.
- Hong Wong (friend) -
A Chinese mercenary and weapon engineer, Hong Wong met Gavron and Tila when they were journeying through southern China. Gavron recruited Hong Wong for his knowledge on the countryside and the local demon populace - the latter dwindled rather hastily afterwards.
Eccentric, loudmouthed and obsessed with firearms, most would question the sanity of those who would ally themselves with this pitiless mercenary, and indeed, Hong Wong is not the type who respects life (since he believes people reincarnate after death anyway), but he is strict in his work ethic and always gets a job done.
Hong Wong has no spellcasting abilities, but is skilled in martial arts and has a wide array of weapons, from grenades to muskets with targeting scopes.
- Darkov (enemy) -
A demon from a different dimension accidently imprisoned in the body of a Russian Strelet officer by Gavron, the malign entity known as Darkov holds control over shadows and is armed with a variety of dreadful magics which are strengthened even further by negative emotions in his vicinity. Fortunately the limitations of his mortal husk keep him from achieving his full potential.
Sadistic, ruthless, manipulative and unforgiving, Darkov prefers to spin webs of treacheries and conspiracies from behind the scenes and engage in combat only if he really has to - but then all hell breaks loose. Mortal body or not, his magic conceals him and misdirects his opponents with shadowy illusions and sound-based attacks while he strikes without remorse and with superhuman speed and strength to where it hurts most.
Garbed in black clothing, a hooded cloak and a horrid skull mask concealing him, Darkov's actual outlook is known by few people. He hates Gavron and all who allies with him, always seeking a way to torment him, turn his allies and friends against him or at least piss him off.
- Maradonia (enemy) -
A female half-dragon warrior, Maradonia used to serve in the same company of mercenaries as Gavron. Her mother was a noblewoman kidnapped and impregnegated by a dragon; his father was slain by questing knights, and her mother rejected to accept the creature as her child, instead passing her on to the care of a mercenary officer, who happened to be one of Marshal's subordinates. Maradonia is several years older than Gavron, and when they were children they constantly picked fights with each other but got along better as they matured, developing a brother-sister relationship.
After leaving the company, Gavron did not meet Maradonia again until years later, when demons and mythological beasts overran a castle in the Principality of Transylvania. As a freshly promoted Inquisitor, Gavron took pride in his task to recapture it - until it turned out the demons were led by Maradonia. Unfortunately, they were unable to come to a peaceful solution in the matter, though Gavron let Maradonia flee in the end.
It seems however that Fate likes to toy around with these two, as Gavron continued to encounter Maradonia from time to time as his expedition proceeded eastward - and every time, Maradonia was more bitter, more cynical, and more evil. And yet, Gavron, as sentimental as he is, refuses to deliver the final blow.
Her body covered by thick greenish scale and having wings large enough to lift her from the ground, Maradonia is quite a menace even unarmed, but she is also armed with several powerful artifacts, including a magic two-handed sword.
- Huan Jing ("wife") -
While journeying in China, Gavron and his company stumbled on an odd village inhabited primarily by warrior women. For the sake of a difficult mission, Gavron decided to seek out their aid. What he got was a challenge: he would only get what he wanted if he defeated one of the warrior beauties. The one he ended up fighting was a woman of partially wolf-demonic heritage: Huan Jing. Despite everyone's expectations, Gavron prevailed, although it took months for him to fully recover from the experience.
What he wasn't told was the fact that if a yet unmarried girl of the village was bested my a male stranger, she had to marry that man. As such, Gavron was forced to put up with Jing's presence even after the quest for which Gavron requested help ended, but in the end, for both their sakes, he rudely left Jing behind - an act which he regrets ever since, for a variety of reasons. One of them being Huan Jing tracing him seemingly anywhere he goes and trying to make him pay for his "crimes" (meaning: ruining her life and reputation and then dumping her).
Huan Jing is a practicioner of several deadly unarmed martial arts and carries with her talismans which further empower her abilities. She considers herself rightfully married to Gavron, but Gavron doesn't acknowledge this (as he never agreed to marriage).
In-Depth History:
The story of Gavron Alexanders began in the Kingdom of Hungary, born to parents who both served as mercenary soldiers in a company called the Mourning Crows. That particular company was carrying out military activities at the southern borders of the country, fighting against ravaging Turkish warbands, but that's not what is most interesting about them - but rather the fact that they did not care much about the background of new members. Neither race nor religion mattered when it came to recruiting; as such, the company had members from many nations, various christian movements, even some muslisms, and a handful or partially demonic descendants. Such was the community which raised Gavron - since his parents were unable. His mother, Irena, succumbed to disease shortly after giving birth to her son. His father, Avram became depressed and acted carelessly in battle, letting his life end in a violent way.
Gavron was brought up by the rest of the mercenaries, with the company commander Marshal as his stepfather. Marshal had no experience in raising children, but for the memory of Gavron's parents he was determined to make Gavron into an ideal soldier. He succeeded in his ambition; Gavron matured to be a cunning and powerful warrior, but at the same time he was depraved and amoral. Marshal did regret the result of his parentage; Gavron's parents were basically good-hearted people, but Gavron was nothing like them. Unfortunately it was a bit too late for Marshal to reconsider his educational methods, but it was not too late for Gavron's tale to take a twist...
...which came in the form of a large demon, leading a band of marauders. During the battle, Gavron took a wound from the monster above his heart, and while the beast was brought down, Gavron was not far from perishing due to blood loss. He lost consciousness, lingering between life and death, haunted by his bad conscience, mistaken decisions and wasted life... until there was a dim light in the darkness. He beheld a majestic vision, only to forget what it was about as soon as he woke up. However, he found that his injury miraculously healed, leaving only a cross-shaped scar on his chest. Believing it to be a divine sign, Gavron decided to start a new life. As soon as he settled things within the company, he set out for adventures, but not before being promoted to captain by his stepfather.
Soon afterwards, he met with a certain knight with whom he is best friends to this very day - Vasvary Janos. Together they journeyed across several countries, and Janos eventually suggested Gavron to join the newly emerging Inquisition and help spread the word of God to the people. Gavron heeded the advice, and advanced through the ranks with noteworthy speed. After his promotion to Inquisitor, he quested in Europe for a while still, but dissent between him and more radical Inquisitors led him to embark on expeditions to more distant lands.
Throughout his journey, Gavron and his company of expeditionary soldiers and other agents of the Catholic Church visited, among others, North African regions, later Russia, then the Ottoman Empire, India and China. On the road, Gavron met countless new people, slew hundreds of demons, about as many humans, made lots of enemies, and a few trustworthy friends and allies.
Now, full of experience and devotion, Gavron Alexander and his people have arrived to Japan. It's time to discover this strange new land, its people, and seek new opportunities for heroic deeds, just as the Inquisition requires... and try to stay alive and sane in the process, which can be quite demanding.
Role-Play Sample:
The Inquisitor towered above his advesary. By European standards, Gavron was of average height, but by local standards, he was high and stalwart. And this seemed very obvious to his advesary now as she laid on the ground, gazing upwards, gasping for air because of her broken rib.
Gavron stood beside her, glaring downwards with cold indifference, but within, one thought chased another in his head.
"There must be a mistake. She is far too meek and restrained to be responsible for that tragedy... and yet, the description of the culprit fits her far too perfectly... What if this is all an act ? I can't just dismiss her... what to do..."
He knew others, like Daniel Weiss, would not hesitate. A dead innocent is better than a living criminal. Or so they claimed. When the suspicions are backed by evidence, like in this case, it is very risky to let the presumed villain live.
In the end, he decided to take the risk.
Gavron lifted the demonic girl with his arms, carrying her like some big child. Tila, sitting down on the girl's stomach, gazed strictly into his eyes:
"Master-Gavron, you-be-ashamed ! You-very-cruel-with-poor-girly !"
Gavron let an elvish smile appear on his face.
"Nonsense. God strike me down right here if I indeed overreacted."
CRASH !
"...Ouch." - Gavron muttered as he shrugged off the oversized branch that conveniently landed on his head.

Design Notes
Before anyone would think I'm utterly crazy for bringing an Inquisitor with guns into the world of Inuyasha, let me put a couple of notes here:
- Inuyasha takes place in the Sengoku Period, and one (or more) episode(s) suggests that Oda Nobunaga is already living but probably as a young man so he hasn't started the war for unification yet. This means the events in the Anime/Manga take place roughly between 1545-1560 AD.
- Europeans used firearms since the 14th century, and Arabic and Chinese armies did so even earlier before them. Firearms (at least muskets) were introduced to Japan around 1543 by European (particularly Portuguese) merchants.
- Christian missionaries also came to Japan, and eventually Oda Nobunaga even allowed them to open churches (to limit the influence of Buddhist monk orders). The Inquisition already existed by this time (and continued to exist for another couple of centuries).
- the 16th century was the golden age of the Inquisition. The Roman, Spanish and Portuguese inquisitions all prospered at that era and their influence reached as far as North/South America, some African countries and some Asian ones as well.
I do admit however that I did make a few cheats. First (and biggest) is that wheellock pistols were not actually used at that time (they were invented decades later). The second is that christianity began spreading in large in Japan only after Nobunaga finished his unification war. The third is simple: the roman inquisition didn't care much about churches in Asia, although in theory it was not impossible to send an inquisitor abroad if needed. But hey, in a world full of demons, magic and other strange stuff I think these are forgivable mistakes...
