In-Depth Human Appearance: O-shin is the kind of beauty that could make men stop in their tracks by merely walking past. Perhaps it’s from her flawless skin, her abundance of straight black hair, or her pleasant face but no matter the reason, most mortal men simply feel drawn to her. Of average height and build, the true power of the woman is in her dress; unlike most of her contemporaries, O-shin favors kimono woven of silk instead of coarse cotton. She also paints her face for the most part, lightening her skin to a porcelain tone and rouging her lips as her moods suit her. Her eyes stand out in most villages, for their grey tone is offsetting to most normal people.
Equipment
Mount: None
Inventory: Cosmetics of various sorts, Paper Talismans, various herbs, unmelted wax, ink and a brush.
Armour/Garments/Jewellery:
Kimono- Due to her current vocation, O-shin has a small but valuable collection of kimono that accompany her on her travels; most women of similar trade as O-shin can only afford two or so decent outfits made mostly of cotton with silk embroidery, but O-shin isn’t necessarily a normal woman, even for a Courtesan. Her kimono vary in style and color, and serve as her garb. Hidden pockets and folds in the luxurious garments also allow her to carry the other tools of her trade.
Obi- To complete each of her kimono ensemble, O-shin has a selection of giant bolts of silken cloth used to tie in the layers of robes. Noteworthy of her obi are the inlaid sutras lining the interior, painted with weak fabric dyes of matching color so that the untrained eye couldn’t detect them, even if they saw the inner folds. The purpose of these sutra
spells is to enhance O-shin’s charms, and allow her to manipulate people more easily. They can also serve as a last line of defense if she would ever need to create a temporary barrier out of the spells.
Hair ornaments- O-Shin wears a variety of hair ornaments to compliment her appearance. Many of these have the added bonus of being emergency daggers and some of these have spells laid upon them by O-shin to generate various effects.
Weapons/Charms:
Folding Fans- O-shin carries around a pair of folding fans wherever she travels; these serve her in multiple ways, from allowing her to casually flirt with passerby to performing for crowds in rowdy rest stops and tea houses. Most importantly, however, are the charms inscribed on the backs of these fans. By channeling her energy into them, O-shin can use these fans to weave potent illusions.
Parasol- O-shin occasionally carries a lacquered parasol with her to ward off both the elements and potential enemies. The underside of this umbrella features sprawling kanji in interlocking patterns to form a warding spell. She can use this to shield herself from weaker physical attacks and mid strength spells, so long as they are not fire based.
Rosary of the Fallen- A set of Buddhist-like prayer beads O-shin crafted from the bones of those slain on the battlefields marring the countryside. Each bead comes from a different corpse, and they allow her to gather negative energy from the living and the dead. She can utilize this energy to cast various spells and perform rituals. This set of beads appears to make spirits and undead ill at ease, for it produces an unwholesome aura only detectable to those no longer living.
Paper Talismans- O-shin’s most commonly used weapon and tool, these paper talismans are inscribed with mystical symbols. The most basic of these create Shikigami to fight for her or carry out mundane tasks. More complex talismans are used in her rituals and curses.
Attributes
Mortal/Immortal: Mortal
Blessings/Curses: O-shin entered into a pact with a once powerful Demon Lord in her youth to seek vengeance; before achieving her goal, the Demon who possessed her soul died, forcing O-shin to become a sort of parasite. In order to maintain her youthful appearance and power, she now feeds off of the life energy of others and must make sacrifices to infernal powers to ensure her own survival.
Resurrection/Reincarnation: N/A
Immunities: Illusions, Resilient to Curses and Binding Spells
Weaknesses: Purification, Fire
Abilities/Powers:
Spiritual Powers- O-shin was once a Miko, and as such possessed the ability to purify demonic energies and heal the sick and injured. The events of her life caused her to lose these powers, though she still possesses knowledge of how other priestesses accomplish these tasks, and as such ways to counteract most of these.
Dark Magic- O-shin has spent nearly a century practicing the dark arts, bartering with demons and devils for power. She has a particular affinity for creating illusions and cursing people and objects.
Shikigami Creation- O-shin’s paper familiars, animated by her aura. They are capable of taking a variety of shapes and functions, though most often take the shape of cats.
Sixth Sense- O-shin has survived this long in large part to her exceptional perception of spiritual and demonic auras; this talent led her to train as a Miko. Despite losing the majority of her sacred powers, this inherent skill has only strengthened with O-shin’s growing power.
Aura Absorption- O-shin has gained the ability to absorb the life energy of regular humans by prolonged contact in order to sustain her existence. She often uses her seductive talents to accomplish this. O-shin can absorb the demonic auras of lesser demons and hanyou in such a manner as well, though this is far more dangerous.
Corruption- By utilizing her curses and Rosary of the Fallen, O-shin takes pride in corrupting the pure auras of exorcists and spiritualists, turning their own powers against them.

In-Depth History:
O-shin was born to a small family in a close-knit village in the northern mountains. Her father, Ryosuke, worked as a woodcutter with most of the village men while her mother, Setsuka, tended the home and made sure to keep a tight record of their financial affairs. Neither parent seemed concerned with the young girl’s ramblings as a child, until the signs began to fall into place. O-shin had an unnatural knack for knowing where people were around her, and before the village’s resident priest and shrine keeper even realized a threat loomed on the horizon, she would warn the men of vagrant demons preparing to terrorize the town.
With her natural talent for sensing demons in the public eye, it was only due course O-shin was apprenticed to the shrine keeper and began learning the sacred arts. By the time her twelfth birthday drew near, the young girl could ward off a demon from the village by herself and bind it’s demonic powers so that the village men could slay it.
Despite her upbringing and general good heartedness, fate had chosen a different path for O-shin; when she was sixteen, the young miko was sent south to help tend wounded soldiers for the local lord with her knowledge of herbal remedies. The sights and sounds of the battlefield shook the girl to her core, but what truly broke O-shin was the assault she suffered. One of the soldiers she had cared for, had nursed back from the brink of death itself, forced himself upon her one night. Ryuhei, as he was called, believed this to be repayment for her kindness in some twisted way. Leaving her body and spirit broken on the shrine steps, the pig of a man slunk back to the lord’s service one cold autumn morning.
O-shin’s power as a Miko came from her purity of body and spirit; with her virginity stolen by the brute, the distraught young woman found the bulk of her powers gone as well. Unable to dispel demonic energies or heal the injured, O-shin was expelled from the temple and set adrift in the world. With little money or talent of her own, and a burning desire to see Ryuhei scream, the young woman did something expressly forbidden; contacting the demons had come easier than she imagined, and the secrets they whispered to her proved fruitful. By the time she became eighteen, O-shin had hunted down Ryuhei and watched him squirm beneath her gaze as her curse tore him apart from the inside out.
Things did not progress quite as smoothly as she wished however, and while her vengeance was sweet, it was also short lived. Having sold her soul to a powerful moth demon who reigned as Lord of the Forests by the name of Hanamaru, O-shin felt the death of her patron as sharply as though she were being stabbed instead of he. A war between demon clans had cost Hanamaru his life, and O-shin’s powers dwindled as he body decayed.
With the sudden realization her powers were leaving her yet again, and that her youth was fading as well, O-shin spent the next fifty years bartering with a variety of demons and devils to maintain her beauty and strength. The wide eyed girl she had once been was but a distant shade in her past, something left for only her nightmares to stir. Desperate to secure her place in the world, O-shin entered a contract with a demon fox by the name of Tamamo; the nine tailed beauty had bolstered the witch’s power in return for a rather gruesome sacrifice involving nine infants.
In order to sustain her youth and beauty, O-shin began to make sacrifices to several prominent devils in hell, attempting to garner their favor. The fruits of her labor? A vampiric existence bestowed upon her in passing.
As such, O-shin began to travel, wearing beautiful kimonos and entertaining young men for not only coin, but the life force she could draw from them without their notice. The life of wandering entertainer, part oiran and part geisha, fit snugly into place with O-shin. She found herself enjoying the subtle manipulations this new occupation afforded her, and flourished in the war torn countryside by feeding off of nobles and commoners alike.
Role-Play Sample:
“You really mustn’t speak like that Lord Oda!” O-shin scolded affectionately, slapping the young noble lightly on his hand as he leaned drunkenly forward. The man was barely in the clan, sent so far into the contested war zone as to maintain an unimportant outpost as this one. The appearance of the beautiful entertainer on the outskirts of the encampment had been considered a turn of good fortune by the men. If only they knew her real intentions.
The drunken man leaned forward, attempting to steal a kiss from O-shin’s painted lips; she side stepped the advance with ease, giggling while opening her fan to shield her face. “Why don’t we have a little game?” the woman suggested, mirth in her voice.
“Wha’s that?” The would be paramour replied.
“Let’s play the fox and the hunter.” O-shin offered, rising to her feet and running a hand down her golden kimono, the pattern of red and orange autumn leaves reminiscent of the creature she referred to. “ I’m going to go hide, and when you find me, you can remove my fur.”
This piqued Oda’s interest, and he stumbled forward to try catching the woman as she slowly slunk away, through the opened screen doors and into the night. His mind turned to lustful things, he threw caution to the wind and followed the retreating gold and orange figure, even as she led him from his chambers and into the forest.
“Whaaaaa?” Oda didn’t remember there being a forest here before. A forest would make their outpost ineffective, for his men wouldn’t be able to see the enemy approach if they slunk in the shadows of the trees.
A growl, low and to his left, sent the samurai grasping for the blade he left behind in his chambers, sitting next to an empty sake cup. He glanced back, and had little time to scream before a large red fox ripped his throat out…
“Oh my.” O-shin sighed, letting the limp body of the noble fall from her grasp onto the tatami mats. An upturned bottle of sake spilled over him, and with a glance to the lantern keeping the room illuminated, O-shin stood. She hadn’t expected the fool to die so quickly, that was for sure. Her illusion had apparently only sped up the process.
Walking away from the corpse, O-shin tipped over the lantern, casting oil and flame about the room; the guards in the hallway seemed blank and expressionless, and O-shin walked past them as the flames rose. Each boasted a small slip of paper attached to his armor in some spot, some place a young woman might easily brush against.
Stepping into the pale moonlight as the heat of the flames and panicked shouts began to follow behind her, O-shin glanced up at the starry sky.
“Not too bad, all things considered. The death of a noble will surely bring more soldiers sweeping down here,” She reached into the folds of her kimono, rubbing on the rosary hidden around her neck, “ and more soldiers means more beads for my pretty little necklace.”
