Rules must be read before you post a character profile. I highly advise that you read the advice, though it is not required.
These rules can also be found under the Profile Guidelines board.
General Character Rules
- You can have a maximum of four characters, and a minimum of one.
- You can have a maximum of two canon characters. One major and one minor, or two minors, as explained in the Canon Character List . This leaves you with two original characters (OCs). You are not required to have a canon character, you may have four OCs instead, if you wish.
- Your profile must be written in third-person.
- Post your profile - following the Profile Template accurately - in the Pending Profiles Board.
- Only staff may reply to, or approve profiles.
- You must post a profile, and have it accepted, before you may role-play that character. Staff will indicate approval by replying to the thread saying that it is approved, and then transferring your profile to the appropriate board.
- The title of your profile thread should be the name of your character - not their title - with the appropriate ranking next to their name. Rankings are listed near the bottom of this post.
- If a staff member leaves instructions for improving your profile instead of approving it, you must follow them. After you have fixed the problem, respond to the thread saying you have done so, then we may approve or suggest something else. If you absolutely disagree with something a staff member says, you may PM them about it. Please do not argue, this may result in postponing your profile.
- You must follow the Profile Template. Edits to the format will not be tolerated.
- If you need to edit your profile after it has been accepted, PM a staff member and we will unlock your profile so you may do so. When you are done, inform us so that we may lock your profile again. We will also check and see what changes you've made, if we do not approve we may ask you to change something.
- You are not allowed to change your display name to a character's until your profile has been accepted. If you registered with a character name, then that is okay, but you may not role-play that character until your profile is accepted.
- You may not have more than two character names in your display name. Display names depend on what characters you have approval to role-play, and is explained more in-depth below.
Canon Character Rules
- You must have the canon character reserved before you may post a profile on that character. In-depth info about reservations is located via the Canon Character List.
- Do not make a profile on a character that is reserved or taken, it will not be approved. Check the Canon Character List if you are unsure.
- If you have accepted profiles for one canon character and one OC, then your display name must be "canon first / OC second".
- If you have accepted profiles for two canon characters, then your display name must be "main canon / minor or historical canon" or "minor or historical canon / minor or historical canon". This rule must be followed despite any accepted OCs you may have.
- Character history must be accurate. Do not add any made-up history to your profile; even if you decide to role-play in the past, whatever happens in that thread, stays in that thread, and is not to be added in your profile.
- The image(s) used for your canon must be of that character. You may not use pictures from another official anime/story that look similar to your character, for example. If fan-art is used, you must include a disclaimer or give credit to the artist, if it is your own, please indicate so.
Original Character (OC) Rules
- You do not have to PM a staff member about an OC before posting a profile. You may simply post it, and we will respond as soon as we can.
- Your OC is not allowed be physically related to a canon character, or have any relationship with a canon character that is not mentioned in the story. Your OC may, of course, role-play with canon characters and develop positive/negative relationships with them, but it is not to be mentioned via their profile.
- Your OC is not allowed to be a Deity. That is all I have to say about Gods/Deities. You are allowed to be a Demon Lord/Lady - but on very strict conditions, you will have to talk to a staff member if you want to be one.
- You character must be Japanese. This means their name should be Japanese, too, but I won't be too strict on names. If you want your character to be of another origin, you must have a logical reason why they would be in Feudal Japan.
- Your character is not allowed to pass through the Bone-Eater's Well. Only Kagome and Inuyasha are allowed to pass through, no one else.
- No modern weapons/items are allowed if your character lives in the Feudal Era. Certain guns are acceptable, but most are too modern.
- If you have an accepted profile for one OC, your display name must be that OC's name. This rule must be followed unless you have a canon character, rules for that are above.
- If you have two or more OCs, then your display name must be "OC 1 / OC 2". This rule must be followed unless you have a canon character, rules for that are above.
- The image(s) used for your OC may not be from any official anime/story, it must be original. If fan-art is used, you must include a disclaimer or give credit to the artist, if it is your own, please indicate so.
*Character Ranking System
[D] - Demon [DL] - Demon Lord/Lady
[H] - Hanyou/Mixed
[Hu] - Human [LHu] - Lord/Lady Human
* If you are unsure of what rank your character would be placed in, post a thread in the FAQ board.
Character Advice
- Even if your character is a Demon Lord/Lady, try not to make them overpowered. You should include weaker attack strategies as well as strong ones, because it is more likely that they will use weaker attacks first before they decide if their opponent is worthy enough for them to spend their energy on stronger attacks.
- Try to go more in-depth on their weaknesses as well as their immunities, and try not to make them immune to everything! Weaknesses don't necessarily have to be physical. For example, attacking or threatening Kagome is going to get Inuyasha off-track trying to defend her, same goes for Rin and Sesshoumaru.
- Even though you have pictures, don't rely on them to describe your character. Go in-depth about how your character looks, describe things a picture cannot - like how they smell, or they way they walk.
- If your character is a hanyou (half-demon), remember to include in your profile how their demonic and human sides show through. Don't just copy Inuyasha's! Try to be creative. Also try to be creative on their traits, too, they could be more or less humanoid, have strange markings or enhanced/weakened senses.
- When describing your character's personality, don't just give them a few basic traits and try to stretch them out. What are their views on humans? Demons? What are their beliefs, and why do they believe in them? Do they have respect for anything, and if they do, then what? Why? Make your character interesting, a list of likes and dislikes is just plain boring.
- Give your character flaws. They could be physical, mental, or both! They don't need to be insane to have flaws, something like being stubborn or short-tempered, pessimistic or close-minded, too eager to please people or arrogant. There is always a dark side to every person.
- Balance is key, even if your character is beautiful - does that make them a beautiful person? Even if your character is cold and independent, does that make them not have a soft side for anything/anyone? No one likes a perfect character, they are boring and unrealistic.
